Overview
Sheltered by enclosing hills, in a natural basin, lies the wonderful bushveld of Thabaphaswa Mountain Retreat. Home within a landscape that is reminiscent of the Matopo Hills, one can spends their days exploring the network of hiking, mountain biking and 4x4 trails. Offering the ideal opportunity for nature lovers to discover the variety of game-, bird- and plant life of the area. Rockclimbing and abseiling also become favoute activities.

We offer a variety of unique bush camps, shaded campsites, a self-contained Cot-house and a self-contained cottage for honeymoon or romantic couples. All equipped with ablution facilities, braai areas, pots, pans, solar lamps and other odds and ends.

Fun is the name of our game; cool off in one of our clear water farm dams, jump from a boulder into refreshing, clear mountain spring water or be your old adventurous self and plough into the water from our true South African 'foefie' slide.

"Magical glass cabin close to nature"
22 Nov 2020
By Ruth Schmidt
"We stayed at Dome Rock camp and it was incredible! Halfway between camping and staying in a cabin. You need to bring your own bedding and cutlery and crockery, but mattresses are provided as well as pots and pans and a 2 burner gas stove. There is plenty of great hiking in the area, and a cement dam to swim in. You need a car with a bit of a higher ground clearance, even if you don't do the 4X4 roads. My Suzuki Alto managed it okay going slowly."

"Complete privacy "off the grid" - fantastic break away from the City Lights. 4 x 4 trails are a great challenge and there are plenty. Walking trails are pleasant. Pet friendly is a bonus. Staff are very friendly and non-intrusive. Outdoor ablutions in the bush are fun. Thank you!******************************************************Establishment response:Dear TrudiThank you for a very positive review. "Loved the campsite - one of the best we've been to. Loved the walks and all the unusual accommodation (Kannidood was incredible)! Super special time!!! Would have been good if staff had remembered to restock toilet paper in bathroom and also remembered to give us the info file on arrival, but they were all SO friendly that all is forgiven!"

"Thabaphaswa Camping Stay"
07 Jan 2015
By Andre, South Africa
"The camping was very relaxing although in December with rains around kept one to the tent. The place being very quite during the day, beside the "mannetjie Bobbejaans" sending their occasional territorial "boggoms" from the "koppies" for every one to hear. The feathered friends all did their best to get one up very early each morning, to enjoy the start of each day."

"Absolute solitude. We had the best rest ever with virtually no noise except the birds and the cattle (once a day). The scenery is magnificent especially the views out from Look Out Point on the neighbouring farm. One can only but relax"
