Overview
Savannah Game and River Retreat is located on 3000 acres of unspoiled African bush and offer guests a tranquil and relaxing bush veld stay.

We are situated in the Free State just outside Parys nestled in the Vredefort Dome World Heritage Site. We border 8km of the Vaal River and are home to 25 mammal species which include Buffalo, Giraffe, Sable, Zebra, Eiland, Blesbok and Kudu.

Our photo opportunities are endless with grass planes, vibrant sunsets, bushveld, mountains, wild animals, Sotho ruins and the Vaal River to name but a few.

When visiting this beautiful game reserve, guests have a choice of staying in one of the 6 comfortable Luxury Tented Chalets that overlook the bush veld. There are 8 Lodge Rooms and 2 Rondavels next to the swimming pool. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms.

A cash bar is available on the premises. Guests can relax around the pool with a sun downer and enjoy a bonfire in the African Boma.

All room rates include breakfast when it is a two-night or longer stay. If it is a one night stay, breakfast can be ordered. Menus for lunch and dinner are available.

NO ALCOHOL ALLOWED ONTO THE PREMISES. BAR WILL BE OPEN

There are activities on the game farm such as game drives, fishing, (fantastic fly -fishing water) river paddles, river walks, hockey, volleyball, soccer, and much more! Please bring your paddle boats, bicycles etc. and enjoy nature at its best.

We also cater for groups, birthday parties, conference groups, team building, baby showers and almost anything you can think of!

Savannah has a wonderful WEDDING VENUE. When you get married at Savannah, the entire 3000 acre Game & Nature Reserve is exclusively yours. The open-air Chapel is surrounded with exquisite white Stinkhout trees and is directly on the banks of the Vaal River. While saying I do the river quietly meanders past and the sun set explodes in brilliant colours of orange and red against the mountains of the Vredefort Dome. The tranquillity of the beautiful surroundings engulfs the ones with love and peace, gathered to witness the union of two souls. Hear the call of the fish eagle searching for its mate while perched in a tree nearby.

See you soon!

"Excellent service"

"Susan was incredible. She was accommodating and assisted us with every request, which included allowing us to change rooms. The room itself was lovely. However, we were disappointed with the lodge. We chose the tented accommodation as it said it overlooks a waterhole where the animals could come drink. The waterhole was dry mud. The Vaal river is not visible from the lodge which was unexpected. The swimming pool was half empty and we would have liked to sit by pool and have a drink. A small bottle of water in each room would also be appreciated. If we had paid R350 each for the night we would have been happy, however at the price we paid the facilities were very disappointing. The owner has contacted me to talk to me and I appreciate his overture."

"The experience was relaxing, staff were friendly and helpful and the rooms were as expected. Breakfast and dinner should be included into the price as self catering is not an option, and the price was a bit steep for the value offered. The river is about 15 minutes' walk away, but not suited for picnics or kids at all. Game rangers didn't seem very knowledgeable on the game drive. Functions can be somewhat disruptive to guests expecting peace and quiet. Be aware of the poor quality 10km dirt road leading to the venue (if traveling by car)."
