Overview
Rocktail Beach Camp is situated 700 metres from the beach within the sanctuary of the lush Maputaland Coastal Forest that blankets the ancient dunes. It lies within the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, which was formerly known as the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park. The camp is a brisk 15 minute walk through the indigenous forest to a pristine stretch of close to 40 km of unspoiled beaches. Offshore from these beaches lies the Maputaland Marine Reserve.

The camp consists of 17 rooms, nine standard rooms and eight suites. All the rooms have en-suite bathrooms, an open-feel indoor shower and overhead fans. Seven of the rooms are family suites with a shared bathroom and two bedrooms accommodating two adults and two children. The honeymoon suite has wonderful views over the dune forest and out onto the ocean.

Rocktail Beach Camp has a central dining room, bar and lounge with a large wrap-around veranda. A raised viewing deck just off the veranda has wide views that extend out to the ocean. The camp's main area has a large pool, curio shop and childrens playroom, complete with board games and other fun activities for families. From a scuba diving perspective, Rocktail Bay is unique. Not only is the diving conducted within a Reserve and World Heritage Site along unspoiled reefs, but divers have the luxury of knowing that they alone have access to these sites and are the only underwater visitors along this stretch of the coastline.

Please note rates provided are valid for all SADC residents living in the SADC countries at the time of booking and travel, and for a minimum of 6 months per year. We may request proof of residency upon booking and/or check-in.

"Paradise starts at the end of the road!"

By Brenda Lategan
"Friendly staff made us feel very welcome. Very comfortable accommodation. Paradise starts at the end of the road. A chef who aims to please !! An interesting and varied choice of activities- whales and dolphins one day and elephants and lions the next. A bit pricey but if part of iit goes towards conserving this corner of the globe - then it is money well spent"

"We loved being at the camp, our room no 13 was spectacular view great views. the staff were friendly, there was a great variety of foods served and asking for a packed breakfast was no problem. The snorkelling was great but disappointingly, on 2 turtle drives we saw tracks, but none of these majestic creatures. The nights drives were lovely though, with star studded clear skies and the lapping of the waves close to the vehicle. "

"If you go - and you should - forget everything around you, and stay for min. 3 nights. Its like in another world and there is so much to do, 3 nights is really a must! The "roomtents" are so fantastic, you can spend half a day just in there. The beach, diving, turtle drives and of course food and staff are all outstandingly perfect. Just enjoy!!"

"Having booked 3 nights at Rocktail Beach Camp, we thought about having a relaxed stay there after all this safaris! Once we arrived we remarked that we are in a true Paradise and we extended immediately our stay for 2 more nights! Thanks a lot for all the great hospitality!"
"Fancy having the beach to yourself?"

"We had a really great time at Rocktail Beach Camp. Lots of pristine beach time. Kids loved sandboarding and swimming in the sea. Snorkelling was great. Boat trip with dive centre was a highlight as we saw LOTS of whales breaching and dolphins travelling with us. Staff were all super helpful. Visitors should know that they need to sign up for organised activities - not so easy to do your own thing - as the beach is a little way away and the snorkelling a 20-minute 4x4 drive away from the camp."

"I would say our only dissapointment was that it is not on the beach as I had expected but a 15 min walk away - otherwise highly recommended."

"We had a lovely time and a very enthusiastic and knowledgeable field guide. We just felt that for the price we paid we could have expected four star rooms and food instead of between two and three star."

"Camp staff very friendly helpful to organise any activity request. Jamesion in particular very good at Lala he made sure he found something of interest for all of us to see and made the snorkelling an experience. Rooms are excellent though the walk to room 11 and beyond are a bit too long. Overall a very relaxing and pleasant experience- we enjoyed ourselves. Good wine and bar selections. Would recommend to others."
