The lodge's name Ingwenya derives from the Zulu word for crocodile. It was quite logical to choose a name that is indigenous to Zululand in this first World Heritage Site of South Africa. Ingwenya Lodge is situated on the outskirts of the residential area and the property borders the nature reserve. The surroundings are very peaceful and hippos often graze at the entrance of the lodge during the night.
The self-catering units are named after the five rivers of the St Lucia Estuary. Facilities include a swimming pool, air-conditioning in all rooms, Wi-Fi Internet, additional freezing facilities, DStv decoders, safes and a hiking trail that starts from the premises. The units are serviced daily.
