Overview

Ezulwini Billy's Lodge is a place where Africa remains unspoilt. Here, the emphasis is on friendliness and informality. Your personal game ranger will share his experiences of the bush and animals on drives in an open safari vehicle. At dusk, he will take you into the world of nocturnal creatures on a night drive, stopping for sundowners as the sun drops over the Drakensberg Mountains to be replaced by a blanket of stars. Perhaps you will take one of the more thrilling walks of all through lion country where you will get closer to natures small creatures, trees and birds than you will ever imagine.

Billy's Lodge nestles deep in the heart of lion country and is surrounded by magnificent knobthorn, leadwood and marula trees. The lodge features ample lounge areas, dining rooms and game viewing decks, as well as sumptuous leather armchairs, exquisite leadwood sculptures and original paintings by David Johnson. Billy's Lodge also boasts one of the finest wine cellars in Africa, set against a natural rock face and resembling an ancient Bushman cave.

Back at the camp, the swimming pool invites you to cool off and your charming African chalet with its thatched roof invites you to take rest through the heat of the African day. We have the Big 7 on the reserve, as well as some 460 species of birds. Our lodges in the Balule Private Nature Reserve are exclusive, luxury thatched camps offering an intimate and affordable experience, whilst still retaining the spirit of Africa.

"Billy's Lodge was a wonderful place to stay on safari. There were four of us in our party and after being given a very warm welcome, we were pleasantly surprised to find we had the whole lodge to ourselves. The rooms were spacious and clean, the round cottages being our favourite rooms. We had lunch and dinner served at a different location around the site every day, always with a real fire to keep us warm in the evenings. A spectacular skywalk leads to a decked area high above a waterhole. We had such a great time during our 3 days, and were looked after so well by the staff who quickly became friends. We would recommend Billy's Lodge to anyone who wanted to be looked after in a cosy home from home relaxed environment."

We loved the style and the atmosphere of the lodge, also the dishes that the chef prepared were excellent. "Myself my wife, son and new daughter in law travelled to Ezulwini for a three day safari adventure.We couldnt believe what was waiting for us.The location was incredible, deep into the bush to find our haven of peace and tranquility.The rondavels were super - everything was pristine, the beds were large and comfortable - linen cool and crisp. The aircon was a definite +.It was positively boiling hot!We all loved the Sky Walk,just chilling out and watching the game coming to drink at the watering hole.So relaxing.....The pool area was to die for after a hectic morning of game watching. Our guides were incredible. They seemed to know everything about flora fauna and the Big Five. WOW. Nothing was too much trouble for them they relentlessly looked for game for us to view. They even took us on TWO game drives one evening as the call went out that lions were spotted not too far from the camp. TERRIFIC.The wine cellar at Billys Lodge was fabulous for us wine lovers.We were treated to a couple of glasses of SA wine, after our evening game drive. The hostess was perfect.Our son and daughter in law were on the last leg of their honeymoon and as a treat the hostess put lanterns on the sky walk along with chilled champagne.MAGICAL.After a braai round the boma the staff treated us to some cultural songs and tribal dancing.So impromptu we loved every minute. (Thanks chef for fantastic food and delicious Malva pudding).A SIMPLY WONDERFUL TIME WAS HAD BY US ALL.. Thank you all , Ezulwini Staff"
