Overview
Oxwagon Lodge is a specialty lodge and one of the most unusual party venues anywhere. It is perfect for weddings, parties, conferences, family re-unions and romantic weekend getaways.

A specialty lodge means that you sleep in an oxwagon. Oxwagon Lodge is a unique private hideaway for nature lovers where you relive the romance of the early Pioneers and Jock of the Bushveld era. Treat yourself to an unforgettable night in an authentically restored ox-wagon and a panoramic view of Hartbeespoort Dam from the Witwatersberg Mountains.

Facilities include our open braai area and a lapa, a restaurant, a dance floor, an amphitheatre and an outdoor function venue.

The Fever Terrace, enjoy our delicious picnic baskets, conference venue, beautiful walking trail, and the Oxwagon Museum. We also have the Backpackers Inn which is a converted double-decker bus that can sleep up to 16 people.

There is a lot to see and do in the Hartbeespoort area, from sightseeing on the Aerial Cableway, to a visit to the Cradle of Humankind; one of the world's most significant World Heritage Sites. There are also tours of wildlife centres, African curio markets, water sports, nature walks and quad-bike riding.

On Sunday we prepare a great Sunday lunch menu featuring Oxtail Potjiekos, real plaasbrood and other traditional dishes. Please book for picnic baskets.

Group and conference bookings are most welcome. You can reserve our entire venue for a party, a conference, a workshop or a wedding.

"The staff is very friendly and extremely helpful, and the accommodation is clean. However, we had a conversation with Mark through safarinow.com's website where we have specifically asked whether we could have separate beds. His response was: 'I will give you an oxwagon with multiple beds...'. However when we got there, we are allocated the smallest oxwagon and there was only one small double bed. The staff had to make another bed for us so that we could have separate beds. How difficult can it be to make a note of this alongside the booking? This leaves a bad taste in the mouth and spoilt the experience. Something like this should just not happen. Then, there are solar lights, which is a great idea, just a pity after a few days of rain they hardly made any light. Maybe have some backup emergency camping lanterns, like the ones you get with rechargeable batteries?"

"WOW. This is the one place that you Have to visit for an experience that you will not forget. From the time we walked in it was the start of an adventure. Excellent host, Mark, was an absolute pleasure to chat with. The staff were friendly, food and atmosphere takes you back to the old times. But the experience on the Ox wagon and sitting making new friends around the Boma was incredible. We will be back for more in the future. If you are going to stay in harties even for a family of 4 then stay here. Thanks Mark, Peter and Meggan"

"Ek kan net se die is een van die lekkerste plekke wat ek nou al gekuier het. Opregte eerlike mense met uitstekende diens en atmosfeer. Ek sal enige tyd weer terug gaan en ek beveel almal aan om ten minste een keer in jou lewe hier te kom kuier en bly. Die mense is so eerlik ek het my ring verloor daar en hulle het my gekontak om die ring aan my terug te besorg. Dis great om sulke plekke nog in Harties te kry."

"Due to the 'dorm' style accommodation, I am only giving a 3 star but we were pleasantly surprised at the excellent sleeping facilities in the Bus. The champagne breakfast with the beautiful view over Harties was yet another pleasant surprise. Thank you, we will be back for an oxtail lunch."

"Our stay at the Oxwagon was unique and very pleasant. We slept in real oxwagons, ate out of enamel plates and drank out of enamel mugs. The Manager, Mark and his team were excellent hosts. Very friendly and helpful. The place was neat and tidy. The home made bread was a winner. The atmosphere was very relaxed and warm."

"Went to The Oxwagon Lodge to celebrate our daughters 21st birthday. Wonderful experience, the host Marc was most gracious, the "trekker" supper was great and the champagne "boereontbyt" was awesome. It was great learning more about oxwagons at the museum and about all the different wagons history. A great experience all round."

"I was going to send a blank message as I have no words to describe our most awesome experience! This was now perfection at it's best. Mark, we would like to THANK YOU for being so accommodating and for allowing us the freedom to just be ourselves. You guys have done an amazing job in making/maintaining the Ox Wagon as in the old days, this is what makes it so unique. We will with no doubt come back......very very soon."
