Overview
Quaggasfontein Private Nature Reserve is a private game reserve where wildlife and their environment are as important to us as our guests. We are proud of the tame nature of the wild animals and strive enthusiastically to maintain this state of affairs in order that game may be viewed and photographed in their natural habitat at close range. The landscape consists mainly of vast open plains spread with numerous hillocks, hills and plateaus with magnificent stone outcrops.

Guest accommodation comprises double bedroom suites, each with a private bathroom with a bath or a shower. A guest suite with an adjoining room are situated adjacent to the Manor House, making it an ideal family room. Between the Manor House and the Cottage, is a separate suite, adjacent to the swimming pool and the pool bar and games room.

Quaggasfontein is currently home to two of the Big 5 game types that exist wild in Africa, namely the White rhino and the buffalo. Other species to be found include springbok, Red hartebeest, Blue wildebeest, Black wildebeest, eland, letchwe, Mountain zebra and impala. There are also sable, warthog, Mountain reedbuck, Common reedbuck, aardwolf, aardvark, caracal, and ostrich.

On-site activities include daily game drives, game walks, tennis, swimming, darts, table tennis, pool table, croquet, visits to the von Plettenberg beacon site, star-gazing, and visits to the Bushman rock etchings.

"Disappointing"
17 Jan 2017
By Kyla, South Africa
"Before reading the review below, please keep in mind that we were travelling with a 8 month old baby. We stayed here for one night in January 2017, and what a complete disappointment. On our arrival at Quaggasfontein Private Game Reserve, we were unsure as to where the reception was as there is no clear indication (at least to my eye) of where to go once you arrive. This creates unnecessary confusion and frustration, especially after travelling for many hours prior to our arrival.Once we checked in, we were informed that our rooms were not located on the main premises, but rather a few kilometers away. We were also informed that if we wished to make use of the Private Game Reserve swimming pool (as it was n searing 38 degrees Celsius that day), that we had to travel back to the main premises as this is where the pool is located. Non of the above was mentioned to us when we made our booking or prior to our arrival, which is unacceptable. Further to the above, having to travel even further after an already long day of traveling is of great inconvenience, as well as the fact that we had to travel back to the main premises should we have wanted to use the swimming pool (which we would have used had in not include more travelling, yet again). The room itself, although clean, is extremely hot and has no aircon, but rather a roof mounted fan (which is useless and makes no difference whatsoever). It was actually hotter inside our room than outside. We had lunch at the restaurant which has a very limited set menu, as it basically included a toasted ham, cheese and tomato as the only choice for lunch. To add to the above lack of choice, the toasted sandwich was very dull and bland, all for a quite steep R25. We decided to rather drive back to Colesberg the evening to go have dinner. Overall, our stay at Quaggasfontein Private Game Reserve was a rather huge disappointment, especially considering the price of R1 000 per night, which doesn't even include breakfast. We shall rather book elsewhere when traveling to Colesberg in the future."
"Absolutely brilliant"

"What a stunning place. With Buffalo's, Wildebeest, Springbok and Eland in abundance. Watching them within an arms length from the boma, whilst enjoying a cold one. Not to mention the food, a wholesome and delicious meal. The service is impeccable, and the accommodation so relaxing.Definitely the place to stop over and unwind."
"Peaceful, comfortable overnight stay"

"A lovely place to stay - clean, well equipped, welcoming. The wildlife was fascinating and came so close to feed and drink. It is quite far off the road - many km on a gravel road - be warned. But it was worth the trip!"
"Great stopover"

By Claudio, South Africa
"An oasis break on our drive from the coast to the highveld. A perfect stopover for a 2 year old who got to run around in a safe environment. Pool was welcoming and refreshing. Comfortable accommodation and perfect rest stop. It was worth the extra little but if dirt road. Will definitely stopover again on a coastal trip."

"Kaap vakansie"
17 Jul 2016
By Chris, South Africa
"Quagga again"

"We were welcomed late at night to a very friendly host who greeted us with a cold beer and warm food, then a clean room and what a spot. Yes long gravel road, but all worth it. Bearing in Mind this is a farm house and not hotel - Me and my son absolutely loved the home feeling and food from the farm. I am sure to visit there again and Again"

"A interesting stop about 30 kms from Colesberg in a lovely setting.Staff were friendly, dinner was served on the stoep under the watchful eye of a couple of buffalo. Made a restful break from the N1.We stayed in the hunting lodge in a small simple but adequate room. The main lodge which was the original farmhouse is beautiful, historic and a green oasis."
