Ons Kontrei Guest House was the first guest house in Uitenhage, once a tiny house on Graaff Reinett Road which was restored with utmost care. Back then, the owners received the Simon van der Stel Foundation award for the restoration of various properties in the Edwardian and Gregorian style, as their work portrayed their love for the old and characteristic. Recently, certain building structures have been changed to slightly more modern features in order to adhere to guest comfort. With the older units, the historic and homely interior has never been changed. The more recently built units are modern with one or two antiques pieces displayed. Today, Ons Kontrei Guest House has expanded to nine fully equipped self-catering units, most with their own braai facility and 12 en-suite rooms with television and DSTV, coffee/tea station and mini fridges. Most rooms also have a working surface for the traveling corporate guest. Secure parking is available on the premises and security patrol at your service over weekends. The guesthouse offers a lovely breakfast served in their cosy dining room as well as lunch packs and dinner, prepared by their catering kitchen "Amper-Karoo". A new addition to the premises, a large function venue, which accommodates up to 70 guests, is available to be booked for events. The central location of the guesthouse, allow guests to walk to various food outlets in the area.
