"horrible experience in my life"

"I booked 1room for 3nights in tripadviser. I drived 900km from east london and reached st lucia at 6:50PM,the hippo hotel safeguard guy acted as reception. when checked in I told the guy I need one more room or add 1 more bed in my room as this hotel only have 1 room available when I booking. The guy said he must talk with his boss. After a while he told me I must leave the hotel and his boss said will pay back me. I am angry but agreed this suggestion. I drived out and checked in another hotel in st lucia. When I was back and asked the guy to pay back me. He only give me R200 that is the key resevation fee but I had paid R2200 in tripadviser. His boss said in cell will solve this tomorrow morning. As hippo didnot paid me my mine so I refused to give key to him. I and my old son go to the new hotel to sleep and leave my wife and little son there. The next day morning I go back hippo to solve this problem and check out. My wife told me the safeguard guy knoked her room door at 5:00AM and took away the registration paper. I was really angered about all these things but I still only got back my money and leave the horrible place. When i entered the reception room, the boss there and called the agola to refund my fee and failed. I insisted on she promised to pay back me not the agoda so she must solve this and give back my balance. But she threated me if i didnot give back the key,she will call safeguard and police. I am there is for fun and no need to waste time with cheater and liar for hundreds rand. So i left."

"The staff were amazing 5 Star. Was very disappointed in the accommodation, being a 4 star accredited. Being school holidays it was pretty noisy. More of a family self catering place than for a couple. The manageress, was exceptional with the handling of the water restrictions. Recommended restuarants and tourist activities."
"Waste of time and money"

"this is not the "luxury" experienced promised - it is not even value for money. Our rooms were dirty (we found old dirty, dusty underwear in the cupboard). The decor is tired and rather stuck in the 70's. For self catering, for what you get, it is expensive. the online pictures don't represent reality. On the upside the manager on duty tried her best ."

"Good location"

"Great:The staff were very friendly and the location on the main St lucia road is very convenient.Not-so-Great:We were quite disappointed that the 'estuary facing' rooms basically only open out onto a grass patch so not really a view that we were led to expect by the name. The pool is very small, and thebathroom is really tiny and in need of an upgrade! Also- we had no water once or twice for some reason. The rooms are all very close together and so our very, very noisy neighbors made for a bad combination. All in all, it was a comfortable stay, but I think for the price we paid, there were some better options available."

"Stayed for four nights in a four sleeper estuary facing chalet. Very comfortable and ideally located. Stayed in number 16 on the end. Be aware that air-con unit for unit 17 is fitted on bedroom wall of 16 and results in an audible hum that you obviously cannot switch off. Credit to front desk for offering to move us to another unit if we wanted. Saw hippos grazing to new the lawn on our last night!"
"Best place to stay in St Lucia"

"We stayed in the honeymoon suite for our first anniversary. We want to compliment the place for it's excellent layout of the room, the quality of the bedding and furniture. We enjoyed having our own lounge and kitchen. When we went to bed it felt like we were sleeping in heaven. Our big bath also made it worthwhile. We also enjoyed having a braai next to our room and try to see if we can spot a hippo. It's very convenient to have the Pick 'n Save Spar next to us!We would definitely recommend Hippo Hideaway for your holiday!"

"Hippo Hideaway is easily one of the best places to stay in St Lucia. It is on the main street and thus all the stores, eating joints and travel booking counters are across the road ( 5 mins on foot). The accommodation itself was very neat ( though the main bedroom is a little bit smaller than what pictures suggest), quiet and beautiful.I would definitely recommend this place to stay at St Lucia"

"We had a great time in St. lucia. Hippo hideaway has a great location but it is definitely not a four star accommodation."
