What We Say
In the savannah bushveld that borders the Karoo, just 140km from Port Elizabeth, lies Haaspoort Bushcamp in a private nature reserve. Here you can walk, cycle or self-drive in the company of zebras, blesbok and
klipspringers. The roads are scenic and offer views of the charismatic Cockscomb Mountain. There are bird hides and day trails that lead you to pretty pools of water or Black Eagle nests. The accommodation is four-star, very good value, and perfect for a small group. There are two twin rooms, a honeymoon suite and a spacious family room. Even though this is a self-catering destination, you can opt to have a special game drive breakfast or an afternoon game drive. There's a small swimming pool for the hot months, and even a 'star deck'.
Nestled in the Winterhoek mountains of the Eastern Cape, Haaspoort Bushcamp Private Nature reserve captures the serenity and beauty of the Karoo.

The Bushcamp is situated on a 2000-hectare malaria-free private nature reserve, home to a large variety of wildlife and rare flora. The four private thatched en-suite chalets complete with timber decks overlooking the river, offer you all the privacy and comfort you need for a relaxing African safari.

Enjoy a sunset game drive or bush walk or simply relax by the pool and watch the day slip away.

All our hiking, mountain biking and 4x4 trails are marked and a map of all the trails is available at the Bushcamp with descriptions of each route, including distances and interesting facts.

Day and night game drives are available - plains game that can be seen include Kudu, Impala, Blesbok, Hartebeest, Mountain Reedbuck, Springbok, Duiker, Klipspringer and Steenbok and various other smaller animals.

Caracal, Aardvark and Porcupine are often seen on night drives. Take pleasure in stargazing under the clear Karoo skies in twin hammocks at the Bushcamp.

The reserve is a birders paradise with over 100 species recorded including a nesting pair of black eagles.

Our bushwalks are relaxed as your knowledgeable hosts will point out rare flora and provide interesting information on the Karoo in general.

The infamous Zeekoeigat, a natural waterhole in a valley on the reserve, is the perfect place to cool off after an exhilarating hike. An interesting and historical feature as it is where the last of the Karoo hippos roamed.

All chalets are equipped with en-suite bathrooms, ceiling fans, heaters and tea/coffee facilities. Each chalet is individually decorated, with twin or king size beds made up in 100% percale linen.

Guests can enjoy an authentic bush dinner at our open lapa under the stars alongside the glowing embers of a real bush hearth. A generous brunch is served out on the swimming pool deck and in true Karoo hospitality will leave our guests recharged for the day.

Hosts, Victor and Lindsay Watson are the owners of Haaspoort Bushcamp. Victor is the fifth generation owner of the property and takes pride in conserving the land and its animals. Lindsay, who also grew up in the area, has a passion for people and will ensure that guests experience true Karoo hospitality.

Full board and self-catering options are available.
