Relax in one of two hand-built cottages equipped to a high standard and located in the grounds of Driftwood Sculpture Studios, facing the Kwelera Coastal Nature Reserve, with the secluded beach just a short walk away. Children have the whole grounds to explore, vervet monkeys to imitate, a sandpit and slide, chickens they can feed, and the chance to make friends with two other resident monkeys, Angus and Anna.

Driftwood Cottage is a unique thatched tree house furnished with a queen-size bed and, if required, two comfy fold down beds for children. The unit features a bath and toilet upstairs, as well as a deck off the first floor bedroom in the trees. Enjoy a shower amid the tall flowering ginger. Guests are free to self-cater in the fully-equipped kitchen/diner downstairs, outside in the leafy courtyard, or enjoy star gazing from the adjacent braai area.

Recently extended to provide a second double bedroom and larger lounge/diner/kitchen with concrete worktops and a gas hob. Raku Cottage has two shower en-suite double rooms, Raku and Strandloper. Extra beds for children can be added or a twin for a double bed. There is also a single day bed in the lounge. A private cottage tucked away in the indigenous forest, a short walk on a paved path from the off-street parking.

Staying at Driftwood Studios will be a delight for birdwatchers, anglers, and surfers, safe and fun for children, and ideal for an artists or writers retreat. The beach is part of the Standloper Trail and has rock pools, shells, and of course driftwood.

Private parking areas and paths lead to each cottage. George and Claire will be on hand to help you make your stay a memorable and enjoyable one.

"A lovely treehouse. This was our second visit. The unit is comfortable and clean. It is set in a unique and beautiful garden. The hosts are interesting. Enjoyed interactions with their children and pets. There is a beautiful pebble beach close by. Recommended. Would love to return."

"Hosts were great, and very hospitable. A lovely nature escape, easy drive from EL. The coastline is rocky, but good for walks. Raku cottage is tucked under trees, shady and sheltered from wind, but not much of an outlook/view."

"Really enjoyed interacting with the hosts. Suggest the installation of some solar lights along path to cottage. Was difficult to navigate from car park area to cottage."

"I found that the room was very drafty and the because of the rain the steps to the room were not very safe. Also the bath in not in a good position as you cannot stand up once you get in, because the roof was very low. It was very difficult having to go down the stairs at night to the kitchen in the rain to make a cup of coffee. By reading you ad I though the downstairs kitchen was connected to the bedroom. upstairs but not having to go outside. Also the braai area was not user friendly. On a positive side, Claire was very welcoming and the place was very clean. But unfortunately I would not recommend."

"Wonderful tree house, exactly as we had hoped it would be. Woke in the morning to find monkeys in the trees outside looking at us. Our hosts were interesting, friendly, and welcoming. Whilst we were there, not only pieces of amazing sculpture by our host were on view in the studios, but works in progress by a well-known Italian sculptor who was staying there. Couldn't recommend Driftwood Studios more."

"We enjoyed two tranquil nights at Driftwood studios ("tree house"). We were fortunate to enjoy photographing the monkeys right in the tree and on the deck. The owners were friendly and helpful when we called on them. If you enjoy being close to nature, this is superb!"

"Enjoyed the time at Driftwood Studios. If and when you need time out it is the place to go too. If you enjoy being one with nature you have to go and stay here for the weekend."
